Freelance consultants and contractors who live in rural areas could reap the benefits of the government's plans to introduce universal broadband coverage across the UK. According to Shane Wright, Technical Director for eDigitalResearch, there are a number of advantages to developing high speed web connections across the country. He stated: "Pervasive access to the internet through fast connections benefits everyone. For rural people it aids local communication and enables internet-based provision of services, information and delivery." Freelancers who conduct their daily affairs from the comfort of their own home could arguably receive a variety of benefits in terms of placing orders and viewing digital content with a high bandwidth. The remarks follow news of the Department for Business Innovation & Skills' Broadband Delivery UK initiative, under which the nationwide rollout will take place. It will aim to deliver 2Mbps to every household by 2012 and manage the spending plans of the £1 billion Next Generation Fund which will provide 90 per cent coverage by 2017.
