PCG has joined forces with the British Computer Society (BCS)
the leading chartered institution for IT professionals - to offer a
fast track service for PCG members wishing to join BCS as professional
or chartered professional members.
PCGs latest annual
survey indicated that 25 per cent of respondents were also members of
BCS, a higher proportion than for any other complementary organisation.
This initiative recognises PCG members desire to update and
demonstrate their skills, within the time constraints they face, and
will be of interest to those within the IT sector who:
- Are not BCS members yet but would like to join
- Are already members of BCS and would like to upgrade their level of membership
There are three grades of BCS membership and the benefits of each are outlined on the website.
What the fast track initiative provides
This specially developed membership route provides PCG members with:
-
A dedicated PCG assessment panel for BCS Chartered professional
membership status, with the new Chartered IT Professional title, CITP
-
Fast track processing: our Chartered application will take no longer
than four weeks, and new members will be awarded MBCS within one week
of applying while the Chartered process is completed.
How to apply
The first stage of the application process is to conduct a simple self
assessment to ascertain the best level of professional membership to
correspond to your qualifications and experience.
Self assessment
The self assessment process
uses a points-based system. Points are earned for academic and
vocational qualifications and for relevant IT work experience. The
points based system is not absolute; it is for the guidance of
candidates and also the assessors.
Relevant experience points
For each full year that you have been involved in working in any aspect
of the building, maintenance, management or operation of IT (or have
been engaged in teaching or training related to the knowledge and
skills appropriate to these activities), allocate 10 points per year.
If you have spent time on any BCS Accredited Career Development
Programme, allocate 10 points per year subject to a maximum of 20
points.
Academic and vocational qualifications
Academic and vocational qualifications attract the number of points indicated. If you have more than one relevant academic qualification, you should
allocate the points for the highest rated qualification only. Once you
have completed the self assessment, it will provide you with a total
score.
- MBCS level membership requires a minimum of 50 points
- CITP level membership requires a minimum of 100 points
You are now ready to proceed to your application for the appropriate level of membership:
- MBCS - 82.00 - (apply online)
- CITP - 120.00 - (download application form)
