11th July, 2000 - Final appeal to MPs
Final appeal to MPs
The report stage of the Finance Bill is scheduled for Tuesday
and Wednesday next week (18/19 July).
The opposition parties can put down amendments in a final attempt
to limit the damage that IR35 is undoubtedly causing to the
UK economy.
We know the Government has the majority to force this ill-begotten
legislation onto the statute book - but that is not going to
stop us making one last appeal to MPs to think again.
Whether or not you have already written to your MP, please
write TODAY asking them to remove IR35 from the Finance Bill.
To help you do this we have put some recent documents on the
PCG website.
Open letter from CBI, FSB and PCG in the Financial Times. https://www.pcgroup.org.uk/ft-article.html
Links to the 'ICAEW report on IR35' and 'ICAEW response to
the Inland Revenue' have been added to the 'Resource' section
;

You are encouraged to print these off and send them to your
MP with a covering letter. If you do not have much time, a simple
note saying "As your constituent I hope you will read these
before the final stages of the Finance Bill next week" will
do fine. If you have time, explain the likely effect of IR35
on your own business and family.
