PCG newsletter 21/02: August 2, 2002: Route 35

In this issue:

  • Route 35
  • PCG/ATSCo working party
  • Commercial Manager
  • ITTs
  • Real Life Meetings

1. Route35 - the safer road around IR35

PCG and suppliers Qdos Consulting have put together a new package of services known as Route35, which is exclusive to PCG members. Under Route35 participating contractor members of the PCG will have the services of Qdos or their agents to deal with an Inland Revenue PAYE audit and any Inland Revenue investigation into the contractor´s IR35 status.

From as little as £100 pa (+VAT) Route35 offers PCG members an unrivalled opportunity to make sure that they receive top-flight professional support when the PAYE auditors come calling. PCG members have the chance to defend their business as far as the General Commissioners, with the comfort of knowing that the PCG and their professional partners are backing them all the way, regardless of the merits of their case. Route35 is the essential tool for any individual contractor who is determined to resist IR35.

For further details, look out for the Contracting Matters which should arrive in your letterbox next week or follow the discussion in PCG forums.

2. PCG/ATSCo working party

The initial PCG-ATSCo Working Party met on the 16th July and opened discussions on the subjects of standard contracts, accreditation, codes of practice, work permits, pricing, what each party wants from the other and managed clients. The meeting was generally positive and gives encouragement that mutually beneficial progress can be made on most of these topics - some relatively quickly. For full details, visit the Lobbying and External Affairs fora on the PCG website.

3. Commercial Manager

Pamela Edwards has been awarded a six-month contract to be the PCG's commercial manager. Her role will involve advising the PCG's Board of Directors on all its commercial arrangements.

Jane Akshar, Chairman of the PCG said: "Any growing enterprise reaches stages in its development that necessitate revisions to its infrastructure. The PCG is no different and, in fact, has been growing at a far faster rate than the norm. The Board has aspirations for further significant growth and recognises the need to ensure that its infrastructure, processes and service arrangements are sufficiently robust to accommodate a substantial membership increase. Further, it is essential that members can be confident in the financial stewardship and management of the PCG."

Pam is a former PCG Director, current Consultative Council member, current Finance Committee member and an accountant with extensive experience of deploying effective financial and business processes.

4. Invitation to Tender

The PCG has issued two invitations to tender. One relates to a political consultancy assignment and the other is for the management of PCG's 2002 conference.

5. PCG AGM & Conference

Be sure to keep Saturday 26th October free in your diary for the 2002 PCG Conference. Preparations are currently underway and it is anticipated that a full programme and booking process will be in place early September. So far, each Annual Conference has been better than the one before and we plan to continue that trend. This is an event you will not want to miss!
