Dear

Ref: Fringe meeting at Labour Party Conference

Congratulations on your re-election in June and thank you for replying to the letters that I have written to you in the past about IR35. One of the positive results of the legislation is that together with other contractors we have formed our own trade association - The Professional Contractors Group (PCG). It is the fastest growing association in the country and now has over 14,000 members. Quite an achievement given that it is only two years old. Our patrons are Sir John Harvey Jones (the Trouble-shooter) and Lord Weatherill.

The PCG will continue to campaign against IR35, but is engaging constructively with the government and the Inland Revenue. They have made positive and constructive submissions on other Government Acts to the DTi, the Treasury and the Home Office. We recognise that there is a need for government and all parties to gain a better understanding of how our part of the economy works and the benefits it brings to both freelancers and their clients. Indeed I am sure that I wasn't the only person who wrote to you about IR35.

That is why this year we are holding a fringe meeting at the Labour Party Conference and I very much hope that you will be able to attend. The details are below :-

'The Case for Freelancers,
Small Business and the Self-Employed'
Wednesday 3rd October 2001 6pm - 8:00pm
The Walnut Suite Quality Inn
West Street
Brighton

There will be a buffet and refreshments.

Speakers :-

Tony McWalter MP for Hemel Hempstead.
Andy White - Founder of the PCG
Nigel Lockett from the Management School of Lancaster University

As well as staff and directors from the PCG also present will be Philip Ross, who was Labour's Candidate for NE Bedfordshire at the General Election, he was the PCG first Campaign Director.

I do hope that you will be able to attend. Any questions about about It please contact me on xxxxx or the PCG office on 023 8023 5860.

Yours sincerely,

A.N Contractor
Director
