29th September, 2000 - Raising the PCG profile

Raising the profile
Everyone involved with PCG can look back over the last 18 months and feel proud of what has been achieved. However, the Group needs to raise its profile further and with different organisations as it becomes recognised the voice of independent contractors. To build on work done to date and to keep moving forward, there are three forthcoming events that will take PCG into the public domain, provide better links with clients and help position PCG as the lobbying group representing contractors.

Members will also benefit as PCG raises its profile as clients will come to recognise that PCG members provide essential services, bringing knowledge and experience as well as a professional approach.

Please check out the details of our activities using the links provided and give all the support you can.

PCG at British Business 2000, Olympia, 19-21 October
PCG has Stand Nr 2 at this Federation of Small Business exhibition where the Group will be promoting the professional contracting services of its members to up to 10,000 SME owners and explaining what PCG represents. Volunteers are needed to take a turn manning the stand. See

Breakfast Seminars
A series of breakfast seminars will provide another opportunity for PCG to present its case and encourage a positive approach to contract negotiations. Seminars take place on October 12 and November 23 in London. This week 70 invitations went out direct to key clients. If any members would like to invite a key decision maker from an important client see

PCG AGM & Conference
Full details of the Conference were sent out in the last newsletter (September 27) and are also available on the site; PCG Conference 2000. Please book as soon as possible if you wish to attend the conference, dinner and/or agm.

Labour Party Conference
PCG's political director, David Ramsden, attended the Labour Party Conference at Brighton this week. He found that the PCG is recognised among MPs and Ministers - and IR35 has a considerably higher profile than previously. Also David's conversations in the 'conference corridors' reveal that IR35 is still a live issue.
